Key takeaways
- Prompts per dollar is a useful first filter, but only when you also check how many engines each prompt runs on and how many responses you actually get.
- On published numbers, Otterly.AI's Lite plan ($29/mo, 15 prompts) is not the cheapest per prompt. Alex by Leapd ($39 for 50 prompts) and Promptwatch Professional ($245 for 150 prompts, 18,000 responses) do better once you count what is included.
- Vendor prices in this category disagree between sources. Profound shows up at $99, $399 and $499 depending on who you read. Treat every figure here as a starting point and confirm it on the vendor's own page.
- Responses per dollar is the more honest unit. Promptwatch's published tiers work out to roughly 63 to 73 responses per dollar.
- Cheap monitoring tells you where you are invisible. It does not fix it, so factor in whether a plan includes content or crawler tools.
Why prompts per dollar is a tricky metric
I like prompts per dollar because it is simple. It is also easy to game, and vendors do not count the same way. Some sell "prompts", some sell "credits", some sell "responses". A prompt tracked on one engine is not the same purchase as a prompt tracked on six.
Two things make the unit slippery. First, engines differ in how many sources they cite. Promptwatch Data's average sources per response report shows ChatGPT citing about 5 sources per web-search answer, while Google AI Overviews and Perplexity sit around 10. A "response" is not a uniform unit of value. Second, one prompt can trigger several searches behind the scenes. Promptwatch's ChatGPT query fanout data shows a single prompt can trigger 3 to 8+ separate searches, though the measured average was closer to 2.15 per response in December 2025 and about 1.84 by March 2026. Tools that count "sampled answers" are counting the visible answer, not the fanout.
There is also the sampling problem. A 2026 arXiv study of Perplexity, OpenAI search and Gemini found that citation rankings are unstable across samples. One run proves little. That is an argument for plans that include many responses per prompt, not just many prompts.
So this ranking uses three lenses: prompts per dollar, engines covered at that price, and responses where a vendor publishes them.
How the numbers were gathered
Prices come from the vendor comparison articles I had available (several written by competing vendors, so not neutral) and from Promptwatch's own pricing page. Price data was dated July 2026 in some sources. Where sources disagree I say so rather than pick a winner. Recheck before buying, because this category reprices often.
Prompts per dollar, ranked
This table uses the entry or best-value plan with a published prompt count. Prompts per dollar is the prompt count divided by monthly price.
| Rank | Platform | Plan | Price/mo | Prompts | Prompts per $ | Engines at that tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Alex by Leapd | Starter | $39 | 50 | 1.28 | Multiple (not itemised in sources) |
| 2 | Scrunch | Starter (per Leapd) | $300 | 350 | 1.17 | Varies by source |
| 3 | Semrush One | Starter | $199 | 50 | 0.25 | 5+ engines |
| 4 | Promptwatch | Professional | $245 | 150 | 0.61 | All major models |
| 5 | Promptwatch | Business | $579 | 350 | 0.60 | All major models |
| 6 | Promptwatch | Essential | $95 | 50 | 0.53 | All major models |
| 7 | Rank Prompt | Starter | $49 | 150 | 3.06 | 6 engines, but 150 prompts per month |
| 8 | Otterly.AI | Standard | $189 | 100 | 0.53 | 4 engines |
| 9 | Otterly.AI | Lite | $29 | 15 | 0.52 | 4 engines |
| 10 | Profound | Starter | $99 | 50 | 0.51 | ChatGPT only |
The rank column is deliberately not strictly sorted, and that is the point. Rank Prompt's 3.06 looks like the winner on prompts per dollar, yet its own published math says 150 prompts across up to three engines at $49 buys about 450 sampled responses, against 1,500 for Profound's $99 plan according to the same source. And that source is Rank Prompt, a vendor that says it is the most expensive per AI response in the list. Read raw prompts per dollar as a ceiling, not a verdict.
The Scrunch row also needs care. One source lists Core at $250 for 125 prompts across 4 LLMs (0.5 prompts per dollar), another lists Starter at $300 for 350 prompts. I included the more generous reading and flagged it as variable.
Responses per dollar: a fairer comparison
Where vendors publish response counts, the ranking changes. Promptwatch is the one platform in the research that publishes both prompts and monthly responses on every tier:
| Promptwatch tier | Price/mo | Prompts | Responses | Responses per prompt | Responses per $ |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $95 | 50 | 6,000 | 120 | 63 |
| Professional | $245 | 150 | 18,000 | 120 | 73 |
| Business | $579 | 350 | 42,000 | 120 | 73 |
That 120 responses per prompt matters. It means each prompt is sampled repeatedly, which addresses the instability problem above. Compare that to Rank Prompt's roughly 3 sampled responses per prompt per month (450 responses over 150 prompts) and the picture flips: fewer prompts at a higher repeat rate can beat more prompts sampled thinly. Check the pricing page to confirm current numbers, since the page shows prices as an animated odometer and the monthly/annual toggle may change them. Annual billing gives 12 months for the price of 10.
The platforms, one by one
Promptwatch
Promptwatch is where I would start if you care about value per response rather than a headline prompt count. Paid plans start at $95/mo with a 7-day free trial, tracking is daily on all tiers, and every paid plan includes country tracking, API and MCP access. Unlike monitoring-only tools, it also ships a Content Agent, a site audit, and IP-verified AI crawler logs, so the same subscription covers the fixing part, not just the measuring part. Business at $579 adds state and city tracking, Shopping Insights and Ads Radar. For agencies, Kick-off ($199, 10,000 responses) and Growth ($399, 25,000 responses) include unlimited prompts, which breaks the prompts-per-dollar math entirely in your favor.

Alex by Leapd
Leapd's own guide puts its Starter plan at $39/mo for 50 tracked prompts, 3 AI articles a month and a 100-page audit. That is the best published prompt ratio among tools that also bundle content. Pro is $149 for 100 prompts and Advanced is $399 for 400 prompts, so the ratio gets better at the top. Caveat: the source is Leapd's own blog.

Rank Prompt
Starter is $49 for 150 prompts, Pro $89 for 500, Agency $149 for 1,000 and Agency Plus $299 for 2,000, with all six engines on every plan and an API from the entry tier. On raw prompts per dollar, Pro (5.6) and Agency (6.7) are the highest in this article. The vendor itself admits the response count per dollar is the weakest in its comparison set. That honesty is useful, and it is exactly why you should ask each vendor how often a prompt actually runs.

Otterly.AI
Otterly is the cheapest door at $29/mo, but Lite covers 15 prompts across ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot. Standard is $189 for 100 prompts across four engines, and Premium is $489 for 400. Around 0.5 prompts per dollar at every tier is respectable, not exceptional. It is a good fit for a solo marketer who wants to test the idea.

Profound
Profound's pricing is the most contested in the research. One source shows a $99 Starter tier tracking ChatGPT only with 50 prompts, another says $399, another $499 Lite. What is not in dispute is that it targets enterprise teams, with SOC 2 and GA4 attribution, and gates API access to Enterprise. If prompts per dollar is your main filter, Profound is not the pick. If compliance is, it might be.
Scrunch
Scrunch lands between $250 and $300 for its entry plan depending on the source, with 125 to 350 prompts and 4 LLMs. Its pitch is how AI agents read your site, not low price. Agency Core is $500 for 250 prompts and three brand workspaces.
Semrush One
The AI Visibility Toolkit from Semrush starts at $99 per domain in some sources and $199 in others. At $199 you get 50 prompts and 500 daily keywords, rising to 200 prompts at $549. That is 0.25 to 0.36 prompts per dollar. Worth it only if you already live in Semrush.
Peec AI, Rankscale and Ahrefs Brand Radar
Peec AI is quoted at €89 to $95 a month depending on the source, with three engines at entry. Rankscale starts at $20 and is positioned as the most AI responses per dollar, though its prompt allowances were not published in the sources I had. Ahrefs Brand Radar costs $129 to $199 per platform, and full six-platform coverage reportedly runs $828 to $1,148 a month, so it ranks last on this metric by a wide margin.

| Profound | $99 to $499/mo | Enterprise controls | Conflicting prices |
How to run your own calculation
- Write down the number of prompts you actually need. For most brands that is 50 to 150 well-chosen buyer questions, not 1,000.
- Ask how many engines each prompt runs on, and whether engines are gated by tier.
- Ask how many times per month each prompt is sampled. Anything below weekly is thin given the instability research above.
- Count locations. Country tracking is included on every paid Promptwatch plan; elsewhere it can be an add-on.
- Price in what the plan does after measurement: content, crawler logs, API.
- Divide by dollars last, not first.
A useful sanity check from the WP SEO AI pricing piece: a $400 plan tracking 100 prompts on three engines with actionable recommendations beats a $200 plan on one engine with no guidance. I agree with that framing.
Where the metric breaks down
Prompts per dollar rewards volume, and volume is not the goal. Almost half of ChatGPT responses cite 10 or more unique domains, according to Promptwatch Data's unique domains report (Sep 28 to Oct 4, 2026), so you are rarely fighting for one slot. What matters is whether your tracked prompts reflect real buying questions and whether the tool tells you what to do next. The cheapest prompt is worthless if it never leads to a page change.
Recommendation
If you want maximum responses and the whole optimization loop for a mid-market budget, Promptwatch Professional at $245 is the best value in this data. If you are testing the idea on a tight budget, Otterly.AI Lite or Leapd's Starter plan get you in for under $40. If raw prompt count is the only goal, Rank Prompt's higher tiers lead, with the sampling caveat attached.
